The Seventh International Chrysophyte Symposium will take place during the week starting 23 June 2008 at Connecticut College, New London, Connecticut, USA. The three to four day symposium is expected to bring together experts from around the world representing a broad spectrum of disciplines.

Preliminary details for the 11th International Paleolimnology Symposium have been announced. The meeting will take place in June, 2009 in Guadalajara, Mexico (dates still to be confirmed but 23-26th have been suggested).

The 4th China – Japan – Korea International Workshop on Present Earth Surface Processes and Historical Environmental Changes in East Asia “Modern Lake-Catchment Processes and Human Activity in East Asia” takes place 17-21 September 2007.

Prof. Mark Brenner has been appointed the new Editor of the Journal of Paleolimnology.

Common freshwater diatoms of Britain and Ireland: An interactive identification key The UK Environment Agency has funded the development of three interactive CD-ROMs to help their staff and others to identify freshwater algae (blue-green algae, green algae and diatoms).

In December 2006, William (Bill) M. Last announced his retirement as co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Paleolimnology (JOPL) and the Developments in Paleoenvironmental Research (DPER) book series.

The new website for the International Paleolimnology Association has been born! It is currently managed by Mike Hughes at UCL’s Environmental Change Research Centre.

At the 9th International Paleolimnology Symposium, held in Finland in 2003, there was widespread support to organize an international society or association of paleolimnologists.
